Vaping for Beginners: Tips and Tricks

In 2014 there were more than 9 million adults who vaped regularly.

If you've always been curious about vaping, there's never been a better time to start. The number of products out there and the amount of information available has never been higher.

With so much choice, it can be hard to know where to start. If you're thinking about trying vaping, then we're here to help.

Read on as we look at nine great tips on vaping for beginners.

1. Start with a Starter Kit

There's a lot of vaping gear out there.

You may be very confused about why you need items like tanks, pods, cartridges, and batteries when you first start out. That's why it makes sense to begin with a starter kit. This is a bundle of all the things you need to start vaping.

It will usually include a tank, atomizer heads, vape juice, battery, and charger. You won't need to make any more purchases to begin your vaping journey. As you progress in your understanding of how vaping works, you can begin to experiment with different systems and components.

2. Ask for Advice

Vape pens come in all different shapes, sizes, and systems.

So there's no shame in asking for help or advice. If you're buying in person, speak to the salesperson and see if they can give you some tips on setting up your new gear, and keeping it maintained. If you're buying online, drop them an email and ask for some advice.

It's far better to ask first before you do something that could damage your vape pen.

3. Don't Skimp on Vape Juice

You can have the best vaping tech in the world, but if you're using bad juice, you're not going to enjoy the experience.

You will likely get a small sample of vape juice in your starter kit. But when it comes time to buy some more, don't just go for the cheapest you can find. The quality of vape juice varies enormously, and it's usually the case that you get what you pay for.

Spend a little more to get a high-quality product, and your taste buds will thank you for it.

4. Try a Sample Box

The beauty of vaping is that are so many different flavors out there.

If you're new to vaping it may take you a while to find your own favorites. The quickest (and cheapest) way to do so is to get a sample box. It will contain a range of different flavors, giving you the chance to experiment and find the ones you love.

Some sites will even allow you to build your own sample boxes by choosing the flavors you like the sound of the most.

5. Know Your Ratios

Most vape juice is made from one or both of two base liquids.

Propylene glycol (PG) is an organic compound that is found in a wide range of foodstuffs, including ketchup. Vegetable glycerin (VG) is a different organic compound that is also common in food and personal care products.

PG tends to give you more flavor, whereas VG produces more vapor. Vape juice comes in a range of PG/VG ratios to help you find your own sweet spot between big clouds and great taste.

You can also find vape juice in a range of nicotine strengths. If you're turning to vaping as a way to quit smoking, try slowly reducing your nicotine levels.

6. Shake It Like a Polaroid Picture

Once you've got the vape juice that you want, you need to make sure you use it right.

If you want that same sweet taste every time, you should be sure to shake your juice before every use. (It must be true because it rhymes.) This ensures that the nicotine and the PG/VG are properly mixed.

That way you guarantee the same experience every time you vape.

7. A Steep Learning Curve

Vape juice is like a fine wine; it can actually get better with age.

Try leaving your vape juice to sit in a dark room for a week or two. The flavors will combine over time and you should find that you get an even richer taste than a juice that you crack open as soon as it arrives.

This process, known as steeping, is a subject of huge debate. There are advocates of various different methods, but there's plenty of time to get into that once you've found your feet.

8. Take Care of Your Batteries

If you don't have power, you can't vape.

Try not to let your battery completely discharge, and don't leave it in the charger once it's fully charged, as they can both impact on your battery life. When you're screwing the charger onto the battery, be careful not to overtighten it as you could damage both the battery and the charger.

If your battery wrapping is ripped, don't use it as it could be dangerous. You can get them rewrapped in vape shops for a small fee.

9. Empty Your Tank Regularly

You wouldn't pour coffee into a dirty cup. And the same should apply to your vape tank.

Empty and clean it out at least once a week. Otherwise, you will end up with a bad flavor at best, and leaking at worst. If you're working your way through a sample box, clean it every time you change flavors in order to enjoy them at their best.

Pour out any excess liquid, and rinse the tank, mouthpiece, and atomizer mouthpiece in hot water.
